Misinformation

Many people on the internet consume information without checking whether it is factual or not. Platforms like twitter, or instagram, allow people to repost this information which leads to the spread of rumors and lies. This is already a major issue online, but it becomes an even bigger problem when something serious such as COVID-19 is the topic.

Some rumors describe the democrat party spreading the virus for propaganda purposes and some question whether the virus is even real. Many individuals acknowledge that the virus exists, but refuse to believe that face masks are a helpful way to prevent the spread of disease. All of these lies stem from the misinformation spread around on social media.

To protect yourself from misinformation, simply just always question the credibility of the source and don't believe everything you see online. A simple google search can corroborate claims you see on social media. Also when searching for proof, differenciate speculation and hard evidence! Many people like to speculate on relevant topics today, so be sure your research is actual proof!
